Canopy Walkways & Slave Dungeons

Canopy Walkways & Slave Dungeons

What is it about Cape Coast that attracts so many tourists? Maybe it’s the warm water beaches with year-round waves, the historic forts, castles, and dungeons, or perhaps the liberating opportunity to be suspended in a jungle canopy. Each of these contributes to mindfulness, health, and wellness.

Overlooking the Gulf of Guinea, the region is vast, filled with equal parts of rugged nature and vibrant culture. Cape Coast is one of the country’s most historically significant cities in southern Ghana known for its role in the transatlantic slave trade. The Cape Coast castle is the largest of the forts which hold the legacy of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The slave’s arrival at this fort marked the beginning of their terrifying journey to the Americas and was the last point of connection to the motherland as they walked through the door of no return.

Venture onto the famous canopy walkway which suspends 100ft high and take an exhilarating walk amidst the treetops, or you can explore the forest floor below which is home to wildlife like the African forest elephant, forest buffaloes, leopards, antelopes, monitor lizards, and many other faunae. The Kakum tropical rainforest offers the perfect setting for a complete immersion into nature, with its sundry wildlife and dense forestry.
